I'm back!

Posted by Cath Swan |

After our move I got locked out of my blogger account thanks to an email address change, anyhoo I'm back with some new little updates to our home!

Everything inside our home is going great, although we still have towel racks, toilet roll holders & wall pictures to put up. We're a little apprehensive about stabbing the wall just for our enjoyment! But we will get there!

Inside we also finally got our blinds up. We have white wooden blinds at the front and corner of the house, and white block out roller blinds in all the kids rooms and other windows at the back and side of the house.

Outside things are slowly, very slowly taking shape.

We have a side fence now, and fill has been added to level out the back/side yard. Although we still think we need another load of topsoil fill to make the entire yard at the same level. That will happen in the next few weeks. We also have gates on both sides of the house. It's so nice to have a backyard fenced and have our privacy back! The bricked area is to keep the dog out of the dirt, and basically marks out where our alfresco deck will be.

The driveway is still yet to come, due to other needs and Christmas we have had to put that back until maybe Feb, but are still hoping that will happen then and we can finally park our cars in the garage.

So there is much still to do, and you can tell walking around our estate which homes are owner lived in or rented. The rental yards are all finished, and the home owners yards are all dirt, so we take comfort in our patch of dirt, cause it's all OURS!!

Roof and fence go up!

Posted by Cath Swan |

We drove out to check out the house today.

As most of the other houses are either built or nearly finished in our part of the estate, everyone has a roof except us.

Our house kind of stood out as you drove up the hill with just the frame for a roof.

Well today there were no bare frames standing on the hill, because our roof is almost all on. With the exception of half of the garage and the parts that join the roof together.

I love the colour, its going to look great with our bricks! It doesn't look overly flash with the yellowy chip board gracing the front of our house, but at least we can see the shape of things to come.
The other addition is the side neighbouring fence. We've been guessing about how wide our side yard will be as it will be hidden from the main view, and will be accessible mainly from the laundry and back door of the garage.

We had already paid for our part of the fence, so it was great to see how nice it looked; plus we got the better looking side of the fence...
Bonus!!

From the inside out!

I had a little peak inside our house on Saturday and took some photos, dreaming about what it could look like from the inside in just a few short months.

Standing in the position of the kitchen bench and with all the windows and side sliding door in, it wasn't hard to imagine living here. Many people avoid buying a corner block because of the extra landscaping and for some estates the covenants for a corner can add $20,000 to a house.

For us, we are very happy we bought a corner block; the thought that we won't be boxed in on all three sides is great. We will never be built out, and the homes across the road are single story. So we have perfect, unobstructed views across our estate and to the mountains. Beautiful!

Of course we will have a fence taking some of our view, but not all of it. And we'll only ever have neighbours on two sides. The fence will be high enough to give us privacy from the road and neighbours, but low enough to still give us a spacious outlook.

Being the last block on the block.....

Posted by Cath Swan |

You may have mistaken this picture to be of a random rubbish dump. You would be forgiven for thinking that! But imagine if your beloved, expensive block of land turned into a rubbish dump.

This is the result of being one of the last blocks to start in the new estate of Laurimar. Apparently this is common practice for new estates, and commonly done amongst builders.

I mean where else are you going to dump your dregs of cement from the mixer, that annoying tree stump you just pulled out of your front yard. Broken bricks and half cut-off roof trusses. Even that broken pram you had filling the back of your ute. "Ahh theres an empty block that's not being used, and look there's already a pile of rubbish!"

Every week we've been out to our block, we've noticed more rubbish collecting. It seem the builders have a strict code of disposing of their cans and wrappers on someone else's block!!!

So boo to the care-less and selfish builders that grace our lovely estate! We will have to fork out around the $1000 mark to have our block cleared before building starts in a week.

But the beautiful thing about building with Porter Davis, is that unlike many builders, one of the first things they do is put up a fence around the entire block. So hopefully short of someone scaling our fence, we will be done with the rubbish dump!
